So.. JW's Garden Bridal Shower last weekend was a success! Even in the blazing hot weather, the garden tea party with all the floral decorations and delicious treats all came together beautifully. Check out some of the pics from the party.

My gift to her (a scrapbook of the last 10 yrs of our friendship leading up to her wedding day) was a bit hit! People I didn't even know were complimenting on how nice it was :).

But I'll be honest.. this Scrapbooking thing can be exhausting! and quite expensive... those scrapbookers out there have to be really dedicated! haha

I think it'll be a while before I make another one of these ;)

Well J's wedding is coming up sooner than I can keep up with! Before you know it, I'll be in Wisconsin (that's right!) & watching my best friend become a married woman, lol! No seriously though, although it may not change things much.. it still will be weird to speak of her as "married" friend, hehe! :)

My call of duty is.. being her Maid of Honor - which is such a great honor.. To be her go-to-gal for opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc.. it's really eye-opening as to how much work really goes into planning a wedding! :-O

Below is the bridesmaid dress we picked out together.. the color is a Clover green which will nicely accent her color scheme - of wildflower colors - purples, greens, oranges, & pinks. It is a Crinkle Chiffon short one shoulder dress from Priscilla of Boston.

I actually really like this dress [as the usual cliché of bridesmaid dresses comes to mind "you can wear it again".. but maybe I actually will! :-) ] & we have an appointment for April 12th to check it out with J.. so as the days fly by, the work continues!

I know, I know....! I've been a slacker! :-\

Closet Revamp

As a follow-up to my previous post "a peek into other people's closets..." I decided to do a closet revamp of my own and take pics of the before & after :)

I still am undecided about how to sum up my own style/personality in just a few key words as I feel like I'm ever-changing/always evolving; just as fashion does, reinventing itself each time - so I guess I will call myself "The Evolver". ;)

The colder weather had snuck up on me sooner than I had the chance to rearrange my shoe closet to place all of the cold weather boots & shoes on top and the open toe shoes & sandals toward the bottom/back. So I decided to take some time out one weekend & redo it.

THE BEFORE:

(Apparently I have a lot more shoes than I thought! oops lol! I decided to write w/ Sharpie marker on the boxes that had multiples or had been switched out to make note of which ones were actually in that particular box. At times like this I wish I had a P-touch machine or small polaroid pics to place on the boxes loL! Well, once I'm able to invest in all see through shoe/boot boxes it will make my search much easier!)

THE AFTER:

(When it was all done, I felt so much better now that there was some organization & didn't have to sift through unnecessary boxes to get to what I wanted! & Even But I know spring/summer weather will be here before I know it & I will have to switch it all back! lol)

Inspire Your Year

Check out this post (via The Cheap Chica's Guide to Style) on creating your own calendar using catalog/magazine images that inspire you.

I think this is a great project~ after all it's all about "reduce-reuse-recycle", right? :) Plus, I already do the same for gift-wrapping & notecards - I think it spices up any gift!

Let me know if you have any clever DIY ideas!

Creating your own calendar:

Collect all the old and new catalogs you have lying around
Print out a 12-month calendar on your computer (I have used both excel or my email account). You can use either white or colored paper, whatever you prefer.
Pick your calendar background. I have used two different backgrounds, either an actual catalog and pasting the calendar and collages right on the back of the pages so it flips down. Or I have gone to a craft store and picked up backing that you use in scrap booking and connected each front and back with string or ribbon.
Start to create your collages…I usually theme mine around the month!
Put it all together and voila you have your very own inspired calendar!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this item! It's so warm & functional.. & going to keep my long neck warm this winter. ;)

The cowl/tube scarf/neck-warmer/circle scarf/scarf hoodie idea is a real versatile accessory!

Depending on the size & material, it can be worn as loose & cowl-like, as a normal scarf & wrap it around, fold it down, or pulled up like a hood!

These types of accessories are part of the key Fall/Winter looks stemming from the layering & cocooning trends.

Weekend Thrift Shopping Finds!

While in upstate NY this past weekend, my Aunt took my Mom & I on a thrift shopping excursion to a Goodwill store. After hearing the countless stories on all of her 'shopportunistic' finds with my Mom & cousin (designer handbags- Dolce & Gabbana; Dooney & Bourke for less than $10 ), I demanded they must take me!

Here's what we found! (although no designer bags, oh well! :P)

2 fabulous handbags ($5-6 each)

My Mom got this leopard printed (real) pony hair belt for $5!

My Aunt got these wooden stools for only $7.99 each! So jealous! I wish I had the room in my apt for stools! :(

Can't wait to go home again, maybe I can find even better deals! :)

Alexander McQueen is suing Steve Madden for allegedly copying his Faithful bootie! Filed October 1 in Manhattan District Court, the suit alleges Steve Madden's Seryna bootie is a "studied imitation" of McQueen's Faithful design, which was inspired by a motorcycle jacket. McQueen's lawyers sent a cease and desist letter to Steve Madden in September, but they refuse to stop making and selling the shoe.

Madden gets away with knocking off high-fashion designers all the time. Blogs like Nitro:licious rejoiced when word came of Madden's Seryna bootie, since they'd been "eyeing" McQueen's design "forever." Maybe this is one reason McQueen's spring 2010 shoes were so elaborate. Replicating those for the masses won't be easy.

What do you think? Should these types of situations continue so the masses are able to obtain such fashion? Can they even be stopped?

I'm one for appreciating the art of innovation & creative expression.. but some interpretations of these trends are a bit too much & kind of silly!

After a succesful launch in Japan, these playful kicks are headed over to the US, Paris, London, Hong Kong & Seoul in Comme des Garçons stores, & for later distribution in October in the Converse & Comme des Garçons stores in US, Canada & China.

Hi Guys! Check out some pics from my company's booth at the WSA Las Vegas show.I helped set up & merchandise all of the ladies foowear product. At the front entrance I created a fun & colorful display of our cool new Spring 2010 rainboot development to help lure the customers in ;). As well as featured the hottest sandals & shoes I designed for Spring 10, which by the way has gotten some great feedback!

Well I had finally made it to Shanghai.. After the longest flight of my life.. A million forms to fill out along w/ health inspections..
To land in China is no joke! These people came on the plane in white space suits head to toe, with masks, goggles, and a machine that scans your temperature which is pointed at your head like a gun! Lol! So friggin' scary!

I'M STUCK IN JAPAN!!

So apparently there is some sort of volcano erupting in Russia where we couldn't fly over it because of the cloud it's causing?!

Sooo... my plane gets delayed for like 2 hrs or so on the runway at JFK & then we had to fly the opposite way I think (toward Cali) in order to get to Toyko. Needless to say, the flight wound up to be longer than expected (16+hrs) and we missed our connecting flight to Shanghai & have to stay in Tokyo for the night!

The airline has accomodated us w/ a nice hotel & transportation to the aiport. The room is small & quaint. But the bathroom on the other hand is quite tricky. Believe me when I say this.. I CAN NOT figure out how to FLUSH the toilet?!! It's ridiculous actually. I mean you would think this would be an easy task?

Anyway, just thought you guys would get a kick out of this little adventure (of course haven't even made it to China yet and there is already drama) lol!

I fly to Shanghai at like 6:30am.. which is 6:30pm in NY.. not sure if I should just stay up at this point or take a cat nap... but hope to hear from you guys soon!

Who would've thought back in the "Full House" days that those cute little twins would become two future fashionistas & style icons of today?

Well, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen have definitely made names for themselves & paved their way through the fashion industry with their creative personal styles & fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James.

From the success of the Elizabeth & James clothing & jewelry lines, the duo have now expanded their brand into my favorite accessory category: Shoes of course! :)

The line is a mix of sandals, flats, and heels using fine Italian leathers & produced by Steve Madden. The pieces are versatile & transitional (it was said the Olsens opted for neutral tones to maximize wearability), but look to be straddling the $300 retail mark.

It may be full-price worthy for some, but to me, these babies are along the lines of Pour La Victorie & Belle by Sigerson Morrison, which are 2 fabulous lines, but I would only tend to buy if on sale. But in retrospect, considering the quality of the materials used, these seem to be reasonably priced, as the line qualifies itself as a bit more refined and conservative.

Recently came across a few postings about OPI's matte nail polish collection for Fall 09 slated to launch in July. The OPI Matte collection includes 6 shades: Russian Navy, Lincoln Park After Dark, You Don't Know Jacques!, Alpine Snow, La Paz-Itively Hot & Gargantuan Green Grape.

I happen to think it looks really new & cool! What do you guys think? :)

The "Jegging" - a combination between leggings and jeans.

The fabric is made out of either spandex or polyester giving the effect of a legging, but the texture & resemblance of denim

"Treggings" - leggings designed to be worn like trousers, basically an ultra skinny jean.

The benefit - that they can be worn without some kind of long garment covering the crotch, making it even easier to show off some legs.

Check out these cool wedges I just picked up from a consignment shop right by my apt. in Brooklyn.

Real Leather & Wooden Wedges by Dru New York for only $24.95! (which had a suggested retail of $132 according to their brand website) Amazing!

For those of you unfamiliar with consignment shopping or are particularly weary of it. I must say, I've personally been shopping & selling at consignment shops for years now and think it's a great way of saving money and/or making money from your own closet.

Why let unused clothing/accessories in perfectly good condition just take up space in your closet, when you could be swapping them out for some new, or at least different stuff!?

Most stores will give you about 30% of the selling price for the item, and either give you cash back or store credit depending upon what they take. So hey, it could either put a little a money in your pocket.. or at least a new(different) shirt on your back.

Me? depends on the styling, whether I'll wear it or not... so of course as I'm actually designing a few this season for work, I'm thinking about what I'd like to wear ;)

Brands such as Dolce Vita & Cocobelle have done them in a huge way with several styles.. Vanessa Hudgens was even seen wearing a pair by Chinese Laundry.

Now you might automatically be envisioning 70's disco queens, Studio 54, or Catwoman, but a ton of the Spring runways & trend reports have shown the jumpsuit as a key piece to your spring/summer wardrobe.

For this trend I think depending on the cut & material, the look can be quite cute :) and an update to last year's romper.

Some of the trend fast stores (such as Forever 21) are retailing these looks at pretty reasonable prices, in many styles & materials for different body types. So if you're unsure if this look is right for you, you can at least try it without breaking your wallet!

Just a lil background info: Traditionally, Huaraches were handmade Mexican sandals with woven leather tops, around for hundreds of yrs, were popular amongst Mexican villagers & peasants.
